Welcome back to house week. Today I’m going to show you the “foyer”, dining room, and downstairs bathroom. Let’s begin:
This is what you see when you walk in the front door. The door to the left goes out into the garage and the door to the right is the coat closet. Just past the coat closet on the right is the bathroom and then the kitchen. Just past the garage on the left is the living room.
This bench was Mom’s but it didn’t fit where she wanted it so she gave it to me. The cushions were a cream color but I bought some fabric and covered them. Mind you, I don’t sew so I just wrapped these like presents and used iron on hemming tape to keep them together. Pretty good if I do say so myself. The baskets are handy to
hide store stuff in.
I found this fun mirror at Goodwill. It had a hideous flower arrangement glued right in the middle of the mirror but I was able to get that off without damaging the mirror. This has hooks on it and at Christmas I did have some things hanging from the hooks but I haven’t thought of anything creative to hang the rest of the year. I keep meaning to but…you know how that goes.
Now on to the bathroom:
I found these two matching frames at Goodwill so I painted them green but then couldn’t think of what kind of picture is appropriate to hang in a bathroom so I finally gave up and went to my default – pretty scrapbook paper! The white thing is a Scentsy plug in warmer that I won (thanks, Jonie!).
Finally, the dining room:
Had you turned right as you walked in the front door, you would have seen this – our dining room. Usually there are many place mats because Michael is adamant about not setting things straight on the table :). The lazy susan is where we out our laptop to watch shows while we eat. The dining room isn’t big enough for a big china cabinet like I wanted, but I found this corner one on Craigslist and it is the perfect size. It was just plain wood when we bought it and we (mostly Michael) painted it white. Then I distressed it (that was fun!) and now I absolutely love it! The white plates on the wall are just random plates I have bought at Goodwill.
A note on the flooring you can see in several of the pictures: it is bamboo and it is impossible to keep clean! I definitely don’t recommend the dark stain because you can see every footprint or crumb.
