Today is Dr. Seuss’ birthday! Elementary schools everywhere (mine included) are celebrating Dr. Seuss today. The school where I’m doing my practicum has been celebrating all week and today is a Dr. Seuss dress up day. I do love a good dress up day!
The librarian who is so graciously letting me use her library for my practicum and I decided to dress up as Star Bellied Sneetches.
Here’s a tutorial for how I made my shirt (it’s super duper easy) in case you would like your own Star Bellied Sneetch shirt.
I bought a yellow shirt from Hobby Lobby and a piece of bright green felt (also from Hobby Lobby). I printed off a star template from here. Other supplies needed are a sewing machine (or not, this is so simple you could easily and quickly do it by hand), scissors, pins, a pen, and thread.
decide where you want the star on your shirt and pin it on (I put the shirt on to see where I wanted the star to be, pinned it on with one pin, took the shirt off, and then made sure it was straight and pinned it on more securely.
Start sewing around the star – I used some dark green thread (it’s just what I happened to have, I didn’t want to spend any money on matching thread and I figured the contrast would look fine) and made a zig-zag stitch. I just did it all in one swoop – I started it on one of the points and then just kept turning my star under the needle as I came to the next point/indention. It took less than 10 minutes.
