How far along: 21 weeks
How big is baby: About 3/4 of a pound and about 10.5 inches long (about the size of a carrot).
My symptoms: Heartburn, my new normal. Most of the time it’s pretty manageable and so mild that I barely notice, but sometimes it gets pretty intense. Friday night while I was cleaning to get ready for the gender reveal party it flared up so bad that when I would bend down to clean I could feel the acid coming back up. I finally bit the bullet and did what I’ve heard suggested so many times (but resisted doing): drinking apple cider vinegar. I mixed one tablespoon of ACV into about 1/4 cup of grape juice and chugged it in two big gulps. That was some nasty, burning stuff, but buddy it worked almost immediately. Totally worth it.
Pregnancy brain is also plaguing me frequently. Yesterday was pajama day at school; I wore my pajamas to work but as I was pulling into the parking lot I saw a fellow teacher wearing her coral colored pj’s (matching top and pants), and thought to myself “why on earth is she wearing a coral suit?”. Somehow in that short drive to work, as I sat there in my own pj’s, I temporarily forgot about pajama day.
Weight/belly: + 13 pounds
Michael has been out of town this week and I didn’t get my customary Wednesday night shot so this one will have to do.
Movement: Lots! He sure is a wiggle worm! I love love feeling him move around in there!
Food cravings: Carrots and ranch dip. I usually don’t like carrots at all, especially raw, but we had a veggie tray at the gender reveal party and I ate a few and since then I’ve wanted carrots with ranch just about every day.
Food aversions: I’m still not at all interested in peanut butter by way of peanut butter with fruit or on a sandwich (in a dessert is a totally ‘nother matter). Also, I don’t think I’ve mentioned this before, but I haven’t wanted any gum this whole pregnancy. I think I’ve chewed maybe two pieces the whole time and it was usually just a few seconds, long enough to get a bad taste in my mouth, and then I spit it out. It holds no appeal for me at all.
Along the same lines, the only chapstick I will use right now is Burt’s Bees (which is weird since it is minty and yet I want nothing to do with minty gum). I used to have random tubes of different brands and flavors laying around and I would just use whichever one was closest (although Burt’s Bees was always my favorite), but now that is the only one I’ll use – the rest are nasty to me.
Sleep: Still good!
Best moment(s) this week: Getting to announce the gender and the name of our sweet boy at our gender reveal party :). It’s so wonderful to get to call him by name now (and to refer to him and “him” rather than “it”).
Funny comments: Lots of kids have asked if I’ve had the baby yet. I keep telling them not even to ask until after Christmas, but they don’t quite get that concept of time I guess. I’ve also been letting them give me baby name suggestions – they know I’m having a boy but I haven’t told them his name. I want to see what they will come up with, and believe me, I’ll be sharing the funny things with you, too!
What I’m looking forward to: Decorating the nursery and getting started on Hudson’s quilt. I’ve decided to go with green and navy, so I’ve been working on picking paint colors and I’m going to try to go shopping for fabric soon.
Baby items purchased: None. Well, I guess the $3 paint sample I bought at Lowe’s counts, but other than that, nothing. We were given a few baby items this week – Michael’s mom gave us a gown that Michael wore as a baby, Tiffany gave us a sweet little embroidered onesie that Josiah and Levi wore, and Michael’s grandmother gave us a bear that sings “Jesus love me” when you squeeze it’s hands.
Thoughts: I’m so excited about our little man! I really did think he was going to be a she, so I’m having to get out of the big-hairbow-and-pink-nursery mindset that I was kind of in before, but I think I’m adjusting quite nicely to trucks and trains and blue :). I’m also having to get used to calling him Hudson in my head rather than the girl name that we’d had picked out for years.
I just love him so much, though, and he’s not even here yet!
