How far along: 27 weeks
How big is baby: Hudson weighs almost 2 pounds and is about 14.5 inches long (your
cheesy handy fruit/veggie reference for the week: the size of a head of cauliflower)
My symptoms: The back pain continues. I went Friday night and Saturday for a mini scrapbooking retreat with some of the other ladies from church while our husbands were on their annual men’s retreat. Sitting and scrapbooking for so many hours straight killed my back and I was in a ton of pain Saturday, but after ice, heat, stretching, and the chiropractor it’s back to a manageable constant ache.
(side note: Who even hurts their back by sitting and scrapbooking? Scrapbooking injury…what a lame reason to have back pain.)
I also have a cold/allergies/sinus issues going on right now. I was a little afraid that I was having a reaction to my flu shot since I’ve never had one before and I started feeling sick Friday night (after having the flu shot on Wednesday). I actually ran a fever Saturday night, which is highly unusual for me (in fact, I can’t remember when the last time was that I had a fever), but it appears that this is just my normal yearly/bi-yearly sinus junk that I deal with. I’m assuming that maybe it hit a little harder this time and gave me the fever since my immune system is lower this year because I’m pregnant. Plus now that I look back, I had a few of the early cold/sinus symptoms in the days leading up to my flu shot, so I think it was just a weird coincidence.
Anyway, it hasn’t been awful, but I’m trying to avoid as much medicine as possible (even the “safe” ones according to the doctor, like Benadryl) s0 this round of sickness has been a little more challenging than before but I’m trying out some more natural remedies and hoping that this passes quickly.
I hadn’t had any skin issues so far this pregnancy (I know a lot of people do) but just in the past week or so I’ve noticed that my face, right on the fattest roundest part of my cheeks, is red and kind of dry most of the time. It’s not too noticeable with makeup on but at night after I wash my face it really stands out. I don’t know what that’s all about but want it to go away! Any ideas?
Weight/belly: Forgot to hop on the scale this week so I’m not sure how much I’ve gained, but here’s a recent belly picture.
Happy Halloween from Hudson and me!
My belly button is basically a crater now. It’s still an innie, but it just keeps getting wider and wider and very crater-like.
This is not exactly belly related, but I’m happy that my wedding rings still fit. They are a little bit tighter than they used to be, and occasionally if I’ve gotten really hot they will be difficult to get off, but usually they fit fine and come on and off without too much trouble. I still have three months to go, but I’m hoping they will continue to fit.
Movement: All.The.Time. He kicks/punches and rolls around. If I rest my arm or a book against my belly, or if I lean into the counter to do my make up in the morning, he kicks against the offending object.
Last Thursday, two of my coworkers and I saw my belly move while we were sitting there then Sunday night in church I saw it move again and Michael finally got to see it later Sunday night. It’s just like a little pulse, barely noticeable, but it is still so cool to see! Last night he was just going crazy (the sugar from the Halloween candy I ate, perhaps?) and Michael and I watched my belly move around for about five minutes.
Food cravings: Orange juice. While I was at my friend’s house scrapbooking last weekend, I drank some orange juice for breakfast. It was like I didn’t even know I was craving it until I drank it, but after I had some then I wanted a million more cups!. I don’t know if it’s because I have a cold and I equate oj to helping with colds or what, but it is just really yummy right now. I’m trying not to go too crazy since I know juice has a lot of sugar, but I’ve been having a cup with breakfast every day this week.
I also saw chocolate Frosted Flakes at Kroger the other day (chocolate Frosted Flakes – who knew?) and now I’m really wanting those. Michael talked me out of buying them since they aren’t very healthy (there surely isn’t a category for them on my Bradley nutrition worksheet!) but I just keep thinking about them. Maybe I’ll splurge this weekend.
Pink Nerds. I specifically bought them for our Halloween candy basket so I could eat some.
Food aversions: None. I think I might still have some smell aversions, though. I have a Scentsy warmer that I used at school just about every day last year. I keep it in my office and it makes the whole library smell nice. I haven’t used it this year because at the beginning of the year I didn’t like the idea of the smells and then I just got out of the habit of turning it on. Yesterday I decided to use it and the smell was just too overpowering – I had to turn it off after just a little while. I don’t know if it was my sinus headache making me more sensitive or pregnancy though.
Sleep: I’ve started having to sleep with a pillow under my belly every night (or at least starting out that way…lots of times I wake up and my pillow is on the floor), but I’m still sleeping great. There was one night (Saturday night when my back was hurting so bad from scrapbooking) that I slept in a pillow box – one for my head, one under my belly, and one supporting my back. I haven’t had to do that any other night, though.
Crazily enough, I still wake up and find myself on my stomach (not flat on my stomach, but partially rolled over with one left cocked up to the side). Hudson is very active in the morning anyway, so I can’t tell if he’s kicking because sleeping that way squishes him or just because it’s that time of day.
Best moment(s) this week: Seeing my belly move! It was so cool and now I just want to stare at my belly all the time so I can see it happen again.
Also, we went to a class at the hospital where the give you a tour of the OB section and you pre-register. They showed us the labor & delivery rooms, the post-partum rooms, the nursery, where you check in when you are in labor, etc. We learned what types of things we’ll have to think about right after the baby is born like getting a birth certificate and social security card, vaccinations and procedures, post-partum care for mom and baby, etc. We also filled out our pre-registration paperwork so we won’t have to do anything when I show up in labor. It was informative and brought us just one step closer to him being here!
Funny comments: A kindergartener looked my belly and then asked “Now where does the baby come out?” I vaguely said something about the fact that I would go to the hospital and they would get the baby out and completely left the anatomy part out of it. Then I gave her mom (she teaches with me) a heads up about her question. Oh these kids, they sure keep me on my toes!
What I’m looking forward to: We’re planning to do a mini work day all day Saturday and get a bunch more stuff knocked off our pre-baby check list, including finishing painting in the nursery. I hope we are able to get a bunch done and then I’ll be able to move on to the smaller things.
There is an expectant parent fair at our hospital on Sunday so we’re going to go to that. I think the main thing is that they will give tours of the OB unit (which we did earlier this week) but they should also have vendors with coupons and stuff. Also, Sunday kicks off baby shower season. We have quite a few new babies due at church soon and Sunday is the first baby shower for one of those mommies. After that then there are showers for either my friends or me about every other weekend from now until Christmas. I can’t wait to ooh and ahh over all the cute baby things!
Baby items purchased: Not specifically baby, but we bought a rug for our living room. That wasn’t bought for the baby, per say, but the fact that there will be a little one lying, rolling, and crawling around on our floors very soon kind of lit a fire under me to make our hard floors just a little bit cozier. That, and my crazy nesting instinct to get our whole house redecorated in a matter of months…
Thoughts: Yesterday was three months away from my due date! I don’t put much stock into due dates, but it’s crazy to think that in approximately three months, give or take, Hudson will be here!
