What I Wore Wednesday

I actually like these outfits for a change!  Dressing my pregnant bump has been challenging in that I don’t usually feel like my outfits are really all that cute.  Mostly as long as they fit and don’t look too tacky or outdated, then I’m satisfied, but I don’t typically look back at pictures and particularly like the way they looked.  The ever changing belly, the clothes that fit one day and not the next, the awkward way the clothes are made in order to accommodate several months of body changes; these things just make it harder to find things that fit well I suppose.

Anyway, this week I had some winners that I’m proud to show off :)

sweater – Motherhood Maternity
skirt – Motherhood Maternity
boots – Madden Girl via Marshall’s

DIY pumpkin belly maternity shirt26w6d

shirt – Hobby Lobby (jack ‘o lantern face added by me)
jeans – Motherhood Maternity
shoes – Toms

I was inspired by a picture of a shirt that a friend texted me many months ago (I’m sure it’s on Pinterest but I can’t find it right now).  This was so easy to make – I just bought an orange shirt from Hobby Lobby, cut the jack ‘o lantern face pieces out of black felt, and sewed them on with a zig zag stitch.  It probably took less than 30 minutes.  The only think I didn’t like was that because the shirt was just a regular t-shirt and it had to be big enough to fit my belly, the shoulders were way too big.  In hindsight I might have tried to track down an orange maternity shirt so it would fit better, although for one day of wear and less than $4 I can just deal with the big shoulders, huh?

What I Wore Wednesday + a Bellaboulie Boutique giveaway!

………………………giveaway is now closed………………….

I am so excited to share a giveaway with you today!  An old friend of mine (that sounds bad…she’s not old, we’ve just known each other since we were little) runs an online boutique called Bellaboulie Boutique.  They sell fun jewelry, accessories, and clothes.  She contacted me to see if I was interested in doing a review and giveaway…ummm, yeah!!  So she sent me a few pieces to try out for myself.  Here’s how I’ve worn them over the past weeks:

to a wedding:

bellaboulie monogram initial gold pendantMonograms are hot, hot, hot right now and I was excited to get my very own Monogram Initial Gold Pendant (“K” for my last name, I haven’t changed how I spell Caitlin…just in case you were wondering; although the swirly next to the “K” kind of looks like a “C” anyway so that’s pretty fun)

bellaboulie pearl cluster earringsThese Pearl Cluster Earrings were probably my favorite item – they are just so versatile and can be dressed up or down!

(apologies for the horribly awkward picture of the side of my head)

What I Wore Wednesday

Another Wednesday – time for pregnancy fashion!
teal Old Navy dress22w3d

dress – Old Navy (get it here)
tank – Gabriel Brothers
shoes – Payless

I just got this dress from Old Navy Maternity this week.  It is so soft and comfy, plus I love that teal color for fall!

I’ve reached the point in pregnancy where I no longer feel stable in high heels.  The last time I wore heels to church (that was basically the only time I ever wore them anyway) I felt a little off balance.  I guess my center of gravity is shifting, so for now I’m going to stick to flats.  These shiny red shoes fit the bill of dressy enough for church but still flat and comfy.

puzzle(obligatory cute child picture…)

Funny story about my shoes: after church Josiah bent down, touched the tip of my shoe sweetly, and said “I like your boots, Missy  Caitlin!”.  He was wearing some little cowboy boots and must have thought that mine were boots, too, since the toe was pointy.  Love him and his funny comments!

raspberry top and skinny jeans22w3d

shirt – Motherhood Maternity
tank (underneath) – Old Navy
shoes – can’t remember, but probably shoe carnival

What I Wore Wednesday

We didn’t announce Sweet Baby’s gender until Saturday, so the for rest of the week (like last week) I wore purposefully tricky gender neutral (or both pink and blue) to throw all those outfit analyzers for a loop.

Wednesday: pink tank with blue cardigan

pink tank blue cardigan19w6d

pink shirt – Motherhood Maternity
brown tank underneath – Gabriel Bros
cardigan – Loft outlet
pants – Old Navy maternity
shoes – Crocs

Thursday: blue tank with pink cardigan

blue tank pink cardigan20w0d

tank – Target
cardigan – Loft outlet
pants – Gap maternity
shoes – old, don’t remember where from

Friday: jeans/school spirit day at school so I just wore jeans and a school t-shirt.  No gender-specific (or not specific) outfit needed.  Friday after school, though, we took some gender reveal pictures and here’s what I wore for that little photo shoot.

What I Wore Wednesday

It’s Wednesday and here’s what this pregnant mama wore.

dress with cowboy boots19w0d

dress – Target
sweater – New York and Company
tank – Gabriel Brothers
boots – Texas

pink striped maxi19w2d

dress (worn as a skirt) – Old Navy
t-shirt – Motherhood Maternity
necklace – made by me

green stripes19w5d

pants – Old Navy
shirts – Motherhood Maternity
shoes – Crocs
necklace – made by me

We found out Monday afternoon if Sweet Baby is a boy or a girl…however we aren’t doing our gender reveal party until Saturday so we’re keeping it a secret until then.  However, I knew people would try to trick me into telling or guess based on other indicators, so I have chosen very specific outfits for the week leading up to our announcement.  I know green is considered gender neutral, but I think of it as more of a “boy” color so I added the pink necklace to count as a “girl” item.  That way I was wearing both boy and girl colors.  Michael thought I was crazy for caring so much about my outfits, but sure enough as soon as I got to school Tuesday morning people started analyzing my outfit.  Some people said that the fact I was wearing more green than pink meant we’re having a boy, others said that I was wearing the pink necklace to say I was having a girl.  I guess we’ll see on Saturday :).

What I Wore Wednesday

I have not done a What I Wore Wednesday post in so.long. y’all.  Part of that was being in a chunky-but-not-looking-really-pregnant-yet stage, part of it was the fact that almost all of my maternity clothes are hand-me-downs or consignment pieces and so I don’t remember or know their brands like I would have if I had bought them from the store, and part of it was just plain laziness in remembering to get pictures each day.

Apologies for the longest run on sentence ever.

You might be glad for a break from the semi-narcissistic weekly pictures of my clothes, but I’ve had requests (yes, actual requests… people want to see my clothes, can you believe it!?!) to start posting again and show off my pregnancy wardrobe.

So here is a hodge-podge of pictures, from week 14 to week 17 (I’ve taken a few each week but failed to blog about them, so I’m getting caught up on the few outfits that I do have pictures of).  I promise I’ll try to start doing better each week.

red, yellow, adn gray top14w3d

top – Daisy & Clover Maternity (no idea in which store(s) you can find that brand)
cardigan – Banana Republic outlet (not maternity)
jeans – Old Navy maternity
sandals – Target
headband – Gussy Sews

pink floral dress14w5d

dress – Old Navy maternity
cardigan – Loft outlet (not maternity)
sandals – Target
necklace – Our World Boutique

coral dress wtih cowboy boots15w6d

dress – not sure since the tag is partially torn, but I think it is Old Navy maternity
boots – bought in Texas, not sure of the brand or the store

blue and purple16w0d

skirt – Talbot’s outlet
shirt – Loft outlet
cardigan – Loft outlet
sandals – Target

You might actually recognize this outfit…the whole thing is from pre-pregnancy!  I’m still able to squeeze into a lot of my old skirts (I just keep having to raise them higher and higher over my bump) and several shirts still fit, too (just a wee bit lot tighter).  Thankfully all my many cardigans that I love so much still fit as well.

Old Navy pants16w6d

top – Duo Maternity (not sure what store carries that brand)
tank – Gabriel Brothers
pants – Old Navy maternity
shoes – Crocs

Eww…this is definitely my fail outfit for the week.  Very unflattering.  I think it might be the pants.  I found two of the exact same pair in different colors at a consignment store and was thrilled because, while I’ve been given bookoodles of maternity tops I have very few pants (everyone who  gives me clothes is either too tall or too short!), and desperately need some for work.  I was excited to find these and snatched them up, but now that I’ve worn them I’m not so sure that they look all that great.  Hmm.

new Motherhood Maternity outfit17w3d

jeans – Motherhood Maternity
top – Motherhood Maternity
tank – Gabriel Brothers
sandals – Target

Some of the very few maternity clothes that I’ve purchased brand new.  I am beyond thankful to have been given so many pieces and to have been able to purchase so many secondhand items at a huge discount, but every once and a while it’s nice to have some brand new, you picked them out, fresh from the store clothes.  That’s how I feel about this outfit.  I desperately needed some jeans and Motherhood was having a good sale on them last week so I grabbed these, and then the shirt was on the sale rack and I needed a few more dollars to get my order up high enough to get “bump bucks” (so strange how that works) so I got it too…basically for free ;)

In other ponderings…why on earth does everything have to be so low cut?!?  I have to wear a tank top under nearly everything and as hot natured as I am right now, the last thing I want to do is wear more layers.  Then add a cardigan on top if the shirt is strappy or sleeves and there’s yet another layer.  Sigh.  Oh well, at least I have clothes and I have variety, so I should quit complaining and remember how blessed I really am.

What I Wore Wednesday

Well I at least have two outfit pictures to show you this week…that’s way better than all the past weeks!  Summertime (aka not going to work) + church camp doesn’t really lend itself to that many cute outfits….although I have actually worn some really cute stuff recently and just not taken any pictures (no worries, I’m sure you’ll see it all over and over again once school starts back).

pink and greenshirt – Talbot’s outlet
shirt – New York and Co. via Gabriel Bros
cardigan – Loft outlet
shoes – Shoe Carnival
necklace – Rugged Wearhouse (Gabriel Bros)

Ok so this outfit picture was actually taken over a month ago  - apparently I never put it in a WIWW post.  Even though it’s way out of date I thought I’d pop it in here ’cause I thought the outfit was cute and someone might like to see it (not because I only had one other outfit for this week or anything…)

owl necklacedress – I’m not 100% sure since the tag is torn, but I think Old Navy maternity (I’ve been given/purchased a ton of maternity clothes recently and I’m not sure where everything came from)
shoes – Target
owl necklace – here (it was only $.85 when I bought it…awesome!  It’s $1.50 now, but it’s still a great deal!)

Even though I really don’t have a baby bump yet (right now my waist is still growing out sideways, making me just look chunky, rather than forward…but I’m sure that will change pretty soon!) and I really haven’t gained any weight yet (today the scale says I’m up 1.5 pounds since I found out I was pregnant…but yesterday that was up 3 pounds and tomorrow it may be down 2 pounds…my weight fluctuates so much and so quickly that a few pounds either way don’t mean much), my body has still been changing for sure and other certain areas *ahem* are expanding.  Lots of my old clothes just aren’t fitting right anymore.  I don’t need maternity clothes yet, but I just can’t make myself go out and buy a bunch of clothes just one size up from what I was wearing, so instead I’m just going to straight to maternity clothes.  I know some people make it nearly their whole pregnancy with only a few maternity pieces and are able to stretch their “normal” clothes to the end – ha! not me!  (besides, have they even worn maternity pants?  Those things are thebombdotcom…how have I never worn them before?!  I may never go back to a conventional waistband…)

Fortunately I have several good friends who have loaned, given, or sold very cheaply their old maternity stuff to me.  In fact I really don’t anticipate having to buy anything new for myself unless I choose to get a new dress or something for a baby shower (other than the super expensive new undergarments I’m having to buy…woo wee those guys are expensive!).  Anyway, between all those girls and all their clothes, I have a wide range of seasons and sizes – I have stuff that is small enough now that I can wear it comfortably without it hanging off me like a tent, and then I have stuff that should fit great this fall/winter when I have a huge belly.  Yay for not having to shell out thousands for new clothes!

What I Wore Wednesday

Last Wednesday of the school year…I have a feeling that my “cute” outfits for WIWW are about to decrease significantly and be replaced by lounge-around-the-house clothes :).  But in the meantime, here’s what I wore this week:

blazer – Gabriel Brothers
shoes – Nine Wes

pink, blue, and tealskirt – Talbots outlet
shirt – Banana Republic outlet
cardigan – Loft outlet
sandals – Target

yellow linen skirtskirt – Goodwill
tank – Old Navy

What I Wore Wednesday

It’s that time again!  Not only do I like WIWW because it encourages me to make cute, original outfits but I also like it because I always know what I’m going to post on Wednesdays.  I’ve been so busy recently that at least knowing what to write on one day is a relief :).

On to the clothes.

pink maxi
dress (worn to look like a skirt) – Old Navy
shirt – Old Navy
tank – Maurice’s via Gabriel Brothers

Maxi skirts are so in right now.  I don’t have one yet, but I do have a maxi dress – on a whim I threw this shirt over it and now it looks like a shirt+skirt combo.  Love it!

purple and teal
shirt – TJ Maxx
cardigan – Loft outlet
skirt – Talbots
shoes – Shoe Carnival(?)

green and cream
shirt – Loft via Gabriel Brothers
skirt – Talbots
shoes – Shoe Carnival

Why is it that sometimes you put on an outfit, think it looks so great, and then see a picture of yourself and realize otherwise…but then other times you put on an outfit  think it doesn’t look very good at all, wear it anyway, and then see a picture and end up liking it much better than you originally thought?  So odd.  That’s what happened with this outfit – I thought it had way too much cream/white and that it wasn’t flattering at all, but I decided to wear it anyway because I couldn’t decide on anything else, and then when I looked at the pictures Michael took I realized that it was cuter than I thought.  Score!

Kinda like this…

In other news, I cannot get my hair to stay in a regular ponytail.  I don’t know if it’s because my hair has gotten so long or I need to get some more supportive ponytail holders, but even when I put my hair in a ponytail in the middle of my head, it slides down to the nape of my neck and somehow becomes a side ponytail that drapes over one shoulder.  Every.Single.Time.  Anyone else have this problem?
