Young Living’s Annual Convention is coming up FAST! I’ve been meaning to share a Young Living Convention packing list for those who haven’t been before and kept putting it off but I realized the other day that Convention is a lot closer than it seemed! Wowsers! People need this info before May so they can put items on their May Essential Rewards orders and get everything here in time for June’s convention so I decided it was time to get this post written, stat!! So here we go!
I am a list maker through and through and packing lists are my JAM. For those who haven’t been to convention before you might be wondering what on earth you need to pack to wear, what products are good to bring with you, etc. so I wanted to share my tips after going last year.

Clothes
- General Session and Workshops (Thursday, Friday, and Saturday) – Professional dress is the suggested attire for these events. You will see a huge range of clothes from business suits to business casual to much more casual attire. You definitely want to be comfortable as you’ll be doing a lot of walking, but it’s also nice to dress professionally. Last year I was wrangling a three year old and one year old as well as breastfeeding so I wore sundresses with leggings underneath so that my clothes were breastfeeding friendly and I would be covered while toting around kids. This year I’m planning to dress up a bit more in nicer summery dresses or pants/nice shirts. Make sure you have comfortable shoes too! I have plantar fasciitis and wear Chacos pretty much 24/7 so for convention last year I bought a pair of dressier Chacos that didn’t look quite so “sporty” and I didn’t have any problems with my feet even with all the walking we did.
- Farm Day (whichever day you picked Wednesday through Saturday) – This is very casual. Most people wear shorts and t-shirts/tank tops (Young Living shirts or specific team shirts are very popular for farm day!). Comfortable, casual shoes (tennis shoes, Chacos, etc.) I would also highly recommend a hat (as well as your Young Living sunscreen!) – I got scorched last year and regretted not bringing a hat. This one is cute and is foldable so it would pack easily. This year I’m also bringing a cooling towel.
- Travel Days – Whatever you’re comfortable in to travel! I think it’s fun to wear Young Living shirts so you can find fellow YLers in the airports.
Depending on what other activities you’re doing, this may be enough for you. It’s definitely the basic wardrobe to start with, then add on if you have other things you’ll be doing while you’re there. Some of those things include:
- Silver/Gold/Platinum party for new Silvers, Golds, and Platinum (if applicable) – 80s attire
- Gala (if applicable) – this is black tie, so formal gown + nice shoes
- Foundation 5K (if applicable) – whatever you’d wear to run/walk a 5k
- Warehouse tour (if applicable) – I haven’t heard much about these yet this year but I think I remember from last year that you had to have close toed shoes to do a warehouse tour so if you’re planning to do one, keep that in mind (I didn’t do one last year and good thing because I only brought sandals with me!)
Some other clothing items:
- PJs
- swimsuit – if your hotel has a pool/hot tub and you think you’ll want to swim while you’re there
- light jacket – this is good to have for the plane, for the general sessions/workshops in case it gets chilly, etc.
Toiletries
I’m not going to make a full list of toiletries here because I figure everyone knows to pack their shampoo, body wash, face wash, moisturizers, Savvy Minerals makeup (see my tips for traveling with your Savvy Minerals makeup here!), toothpaste, etc. But here are a few additional things you might not have thought of!
- Bon Voyage kit – if you’ve never gotten the Young Living Bon Voyage kit, it’s super handy to have all of those personal care items in little travel sizes!
- Mineral Sunscreen – Like I said earlier, I got scorched at Farm Day last year! Make sure you bring a bottle of sunscreen (and carry it with you to the farm to reapply)
- Lavaderm After Sun spray – in the event that you happen to get burnt, make sure you have some After Sun spray on hand too to use
- Animal Scents ointment – depending on where you’re from, you may find the air in Utah to be very dry. Coming from a super humid state, I had issues with this. I recommend bringing some Animal Scents ointment and swabbing it inside your nose to help keep your nose moisturized
- Saline spray – Also to help your nose with dryness
- Eye drops – again, for the dryness. I wanted to claw my eyes out by the end of each day they were so dry
- Lotion and lip balm – my dryness issues came in the form of my nose and eyes but others experience really dry skin so make sure to have plenty of lotion and lip balm. And drink lots of water!
A couple of other notes:
- In my opinion you do not need to bring insect repellent. I live in Kentucky where I can’t go out to get the mail without getting attacked by mosquitos but the bugs were not a problem at all in the dry Utah climate
- You can use contact cases or other small containers to bring small portions of your personal care products, especially if you are planning to fly carry on only. I am not planning to do that for Convention but I did do that for Silver Retreat last fall, you can see how I packed my toiletries specifically and how I packed my suitcase.
Supplements and Specific Oils
Last year someone shared a list of supplements and oils to use specifically for Convention and I found it to be SO helpful, so here’s mine.
- Ningxia Red – Yes, the Ningxia will floweth freely at Club Red (the Ningxia Red bar) ;) and some people will say there is no need to bring any, just buy it there, but I never made it to Club Red until afternoon and I want to start my day off with Ningxia, so I packed packets of it to drink in the hotel room in the morning.
- Ningxia Nitro – Same with Nitro. You can buy this at Club Red but if you want to have some on your travel days, in the morning, before the 5k, whatever, go ahead and pack some of your own.
- Essentialzymes-4 – Traveling in general and eating on the go constantly can wreak havoc on your digestive system. The altitude in Utah can also really cause your stomach to go haywire. I started taking Essentialzymes-4 before we left and took them with every meal while we were traveling and I felt like that helped support my digestion a lot! (if Essentialzyme, Allerzyme, or Detoxzyme are your enzyme of choice that’s fine too, I just prefer E4 since you take it with meals and I can never remember to take supplements in between meals)
- Digest + Cleanse – I did not use this last year but this year I’ll be bringing Digest & Cleanse to take before bed to help keep my digestive system moving along (last year I took capsules of DiGize Vitality…nothing worse than traveling and not being able to poop knowwhatImean?)
- Life 9 – again, really good to support your digestion
- Multigreens – Multigreens has chlorophyll which helps oxygenate your body, very important when going to a place with high elevation, especially if you’re not from a high elevation yourself
- Cedarwood – Also very oxygenating, rub this one on your brain stem!
- Super B – Convention is go-go-go and will take a lot of energy! Make sure you have your Super B to help keep your energy levels up
- Inner Defense, ImmuPro, and/or Super C – Between traveling on airplanes, not getting enough sleep, being out of your routine, and being with a bazillion new people, your immune system could potentially take a hit! Make sure you’re supporting your immune system before and during Convention with Inner Defense or ImmuPro (bonus…ImmuPro may help you sleep better too!)
- Sleep Essence or ImmuPro – I don’t know about you, but I sleep way worse when I’m traveling and then add in roommates if you’re sharing a hotel room with other people…I recommend having Sleep Essence or ImmuPro on hand just in case you need some additional sleep support.
- BLM – Between lots of sitting in airplanes/sessions/workshops and lots of walking around SLC your bones, ligaments, and muscles may need some additional support. I recommend bringing BLM (or AgliEase or Sulfurzyme if you prefer those)
- Cool Azul Pain Relief Cream, Deep Relief, PanAway, etc. -Again, your muscles are going to get a lot of activity this week
- And the supplement container I use – I love that it has spots for breakfast, lunch, dinner, and before bed AND that you can take each individual day’s set of supplements and toss it into your bag for the day rather than having to carry the whole week’s worth with you.
Of course in addition to these Convention-specific supplements and oils, bring whatever you use in your normal daily/nightly routine (Master Formula, Mindwise, Progessence Plus, Endoflex, Tranquil, etc.)
Some other oils you might want to bring: Clarity (lots of listening/note taking), En-R-Gee (for energy), Stress Away/Valor/frankincense/Joy/White Angelica (whatever oils help you with patience and dealing with tons of people).
Feel free to share your must-have supplements and oils in the comments!
Other stuff
Some other items you might want to think about bringing:
- A bag/backpack – Young Living will give you a bag as part of your swag when you check in but we likely won’t know what kind of bag until we get there and it’s nice to have something that looks different from what 30,000 other people are carrying, so I recommend you bring your own. It doesn’t need to be huge, but big enough to have your wallet, oils you want to carry with you, light jacket, snacks or lunch if you’re packing a lunch, water bottle, etc. You can use whatever bag you find comfortable but personally I prefer backpacks as they’re easiest on my back/shoulders and leave my hands free. I have one from Pottery Barn that I used last year and may use again this year. I also carry this one for my diaper bag and absolutely love it so I may bring it as my personal backpack this year. There are tons of smaller, more lightweight options out there too.
- Notebook and pen (maybe) – Only if you are super picky about this. Young Living will provide you with both, so no need to pack one unless you are very specific about what you write with/on. Personally, I took all of my notes on my phone and never used my notebook/pen but I’m not much of a pen/paper person.
- Portable charger – You will wear out your phone battery during Convention so you definitely want an external, portable battery! I have one like this (big and bulky but gets a lot of charges) and this one (much smaller and lighter but doesn’t have as many charges)
- Wireless keyboard (maybe) – Last year I typed all of my notes on my phone and it was fine. This year I am planning to bring this wireless keyboard. I’m not sure how useful it will be (during most of the sessions you are not sitting at a desk or anything and I’m not sure how balancing the keyboard in my lap will work out, but I already own the keyboard so I’m going to bring it to try out and see if I like it better)
- Water bottle – Staying hydrated is important all the time but especially in high altitude! I carry this bottle and my lemon vitality so I can drink water all day.
- Snacks – I kept Einkorn granola and Slique Bars in my bag so that I had a quick snack if I needed one. You can usually buy the Slique or Wolfberry Crisp bars at Club Red and the farm but they’re more expensive so buy your own and bring them (and avoid the lines) if you have room in your suitcase.
- Lunch box – This will depend on what your lunch plans are. Last year we went to Trader Joes and bought food to have for breakfast in our room and to pack lunch to take to the convention center. This not only saved a bunch of money but also saved time because we didn’t have to wait in super long lines during lunch and could just eat what we brought and then go visit the Expo during that time. I have one of these and think it’s a good size.
- Plastic baggies – Someone told me once to always pack plastic baggies when traveling because you never know what you’ll need them for. This is so true with kids but also really nice even when it’s just me – especially to use for sandwiches, individual servings of granola, fruit, etc. for lunches and snacks.
- Paper plates, napkins, plastic silverware, etc. – Last year we went to Trader Joes to buy our groceries and didn’t realize they don’t sell paper goods so we had to make an emergency stop at Target. This year I’ll be tucking a couple of plates, napkins, etc. into my suitcase (bonus: after they’re used up that’s more room on the return trip for new oily goodies!) so that I have those! It’s incredibly hard to make a peanut butter sandwich if you have nothing to lay the bread on and nothing to spread the peanut butter with. #justsaying (P.S. don’t hate on me for using all these wasteful products…when I’m traveling convenience is key and there is no way I want to haul dirty reusable snack bags, silverware, plates, etc. home on the plane. If you do though, more power to you!)
- Thieves cleaner/Thieves spray/Thieves wipes (or my DIY Thieves wipes) – to wipe down the hotel room (hotels are just yuck)
- Thieves hand purifier – because planes are gross and the farm has portapotties
- Thieves hand soap – I fill one of these small foaming hand soap containers and carry it with me. It doesn’t take up much space but that way you can have your own soap to use in the hotel, public restrooms, etc. You can either fill it with Young Living’s Thieves hand soap or make your own.
- Thieves fruit & veggie spray – if you’re going to buy food for snacks/lunches so that you can wash your produce off.
- Diffuser – I like to diffuse Thieves or Purification as soon as we get to the hotel and then something like lavender, Stress Away, Dream Catcher, or Release at night. Personally, I bring this one from Amazon because it’s much smaller than my YL ones and is inexpensive so I’m not as sad if it gets broken in transit.
- Umbrella and poncho (maybe) – Check the weather a few days before you go. Supposedly it doesn’t rain much in SLC so you may not need this at all. It didn’t rain during Convention last year but it poured on farm day at Silver retreat last year. I like to bring a $1 poncho from the Dollar Tree so I can just throw it away once I’m done and not have to worry about drying it out and bringing it home.
- Laptop/charger (maybe) – Honestly you may not need your laptop at all. It would be heavy to wag that around all day and you really aren’t in the hotel room to do anything other than sleep. I barely used mine so I’m not sure I’ll even bother to bring it this year.
- Power strip – If you’re sharing a room with several other people I recommend bringing a powerstrip so that you have plenty of places to plug in diffusers, phone chargers, etc.
- An extra suitcase – Between the swag bag you get, new Convention products you buy, and other oily products from the Aroma Share vendor event, you will likely go home with quite a bit more stuff than you came with. I recommend packing a suitcase inside of a suitcase so that you have an extra for the return trip. Last year I packed a duffle bag in my large suitcase – on the way home I filled the duffle bag with dirty clothes and then had room in my suitcase for all of my stuff. I’ve seen others who nest a slightly smaller rolling suitcase into their larger rolling suitcase and do it that way. I haven’t decided what I’m doing to do this year yet, I need to test pack and play around with a few things to see what’s going to work best for me. I have this suitcase that I used when I flew carry on for Silver Retreat so I might put it inside my large bag and try that.
- If you don’t have packing cubes yet I highly recommend them! I got some before Convention last year because I was packing for four and trying to organize and maximize our space. They are amazing! I used them when I flew to Silver Retreat just for myself and they really helped me squeeze a lot of stuff into just a carry on. And I even use them when we travel for weekend trips because it helps keep everyone’s stuff organized and separated by family member.
And that’s about it on my list! I hope this is helpful as you start thinking about what products you need to buy and pack for Convention! Remember to get your Young Living products ordered early so you’re not worrying about shipping closer to time.
If you have any other must-haves that you’d add to that list, leave it in the comments below!
If you prefer videos or want to see it all in action, here’s a test packing/must have video I did:

Thank you so much for all your tips. Where did you get the wipes travel bag?
Caitlin says
You’re welcome! The Huggies Clutch & Clean from the DIY Thieves wipes post (https://mychocolatemoments.com/2015/10/15/diy-thieves-cleaning-wipes/)? Most stores have those – Kroger, Walmart, Sam’s, etc.

Yay! So excited! I hope I get to meet you too!!

Thanks for your ‘lists’. I am a newbie this year and was wondering what to pack.
Alisha says
This is probably a silly question but are there ice machines around to put in your water bottles or should I plan to have an ice pack? I’m one who needs cold water🤦🏼♀️
Caitlin says
I honestly don’t remember! I don’t remember seeing any but that’s not really something I would have looked for either.
