We made it! The first twelve weeks of CC are behind us and now we have a nice, long winter break ahead. Here are my cycle 3 review plans for winter break.
Note: you DO NOT have to do any CC review over the break! Feel free to take a breather and not do any CC again until January. Our first three years of CC we didn’t do anything during our breaks; last year was the first time we did some review in between semesters. But if you have a child going for memory master or you just want to review a bit to keep things fresh, here are some ideas for you.

Classical Conversations Cycle 3 Review Looping Schedule
I like to use a looping schedule where we review all twelve weeks of one subject (or sometimes two) per day. I do a five day loop since that fits nicely into a school week but you could do a seven day loop and just do one subject per day. Our review schedule looks somewhat like this:
Day 1 – History
Day 2 – Timeline
Day 3 – Latin
Day 4 – English and Science
Day 5 – Geography and Math
(we may switch up what day we do what, but that’s how I break down the subjects)
Classical Conversations Cycle 3 Hands On Review
I try to make the review hands on and fun. Because I have three kids who are reviewing this year I’m also doing rotations or stations so they’ll rotate through three different actvities. Here’s what I have planned:
(Note: these are also good ideas if your campus does a review day over the break or for tutors to use during review time in their classrooms)
History
- We have used these picture history cards all year and each week I’ve been dumping them into a container. Our first week of history review the kids sorted through all the history sentences and put them in order. (bonus: this saved me from having to organize them myself!)
- For the rest of the weeks I’ll separate the cards into groups of four weeks and make three stations, the kids will unscramble the four sentences at one station then rotate to the next, do those four, and so on
Timeline
- Timeline will be basically the same as history: each child will be given four weeks to put in order. This will probably take a while so instead of rotating I may just have them do their four weeks then we’ll review all 12 weeks as a family.
- I have been wanting to make a set of these mini timeline cards. If I can get those printed/laminated/cut then I’ll have the kids help me put them in order (again, good review for them and helps me get things organized! Win!)
Latin
- We’re using my large Latin matching chart – I split it up around the house (part on the whiteboard, part on the dishwasher, and part on the fridge), they rotate to each section and match that set of Latin/English words.
Science
- Science is our “weakest” subject this year in that I feel like it’s the one we’ve have least mastered. Part of that is because, unlike all the other subjects, we didn’t have a set of science songs that we’ve used. But when I put our memory work on our Yoto player I found some science songs for us to use. Now that we have those we’re going to listen to those, probably while we work on a large human body puzzle we have.
- There are also a few activities from our science velcro activity set we use that we haven’t used yet (a digestive system playdoh mat, a full skeleton) so we’ll use those too.
- If we had not already been watching the Awesome Science Media videos each week all semester, then I would use winter break as a time to watch those for review. That’s what we did last year – I signed up for an Awesome Science Media subscription in November so we watched the week 1-12 videos over the break.
English
- The kids will put together our large irregular verb chart.
Math
- We have a pop it that goes up to 15×15 so the kids will listen to the skip counting songs on the yoto while popping them on the popper
Geography
- We have a magnetic 50 states puzzle so one of our rotations on our Geography/Math day will be to put the puzzle together
- The other rotation will be to play games on the Stack the States app. My kids love this app and it’s a fun way to practice the states.
- The Seterra app is also wonderful – we won’t be using it for review because we’ve been using it daily all semester and the kids are burnt out but if your kids haven’t been using Seterra it is a great way to master the states and capitols!
And that’s it! Simple, easy, and fun ways to review over Christmas break!
