With three little ones, and one that is especially clingy to Mommy, it is hard for us to get out and have dates very often. This year for Christmas I thought I’d do some searching and see if I could find some sort of fun Date Night in a Box to get Michael as a gift that we could do at home. If you are a looooooonnnnnggggg time reader you may remember that years ago I put together a Date of the Month Club for Michael. It was so fun but that was pre-kids when I had lots more time on my hands (and brain cells to be creative with). Now I need something that’s already done for me!

I looked at several options; I was particularly interested in one of the ones that involved solving mysteries or puzzles or crimes. The most popular one (aka the one the Facebook all-knowing algorithm kept showing me ;) ) looked good until I did some reading and realized that you had to continue playing month to month in order to get all the clues! I didn’t want that – paying for multiple months at a time was outside of the budget I had for Christmas gifts. So I kept looking and eventually found Finders Seekers.
Why Finders Seekers?
The biggest draws that Finders Seekers had were that:
1) each month was a stand-alone mystery
and
2) you could purchase just one month at a time, you didn’t have to commit to 3 or 6 or 12 months right away
So I decided to get us a one-month box and see how we liked it.
What’s inside?
The box we got was a Chicago Mystery – helping the Chicago police solve an art theft from 1935.
The box showed up and inside was everything needed for your mystery. The materials provided looked like a police case file filled with evidence and notes; they were high quality and authentic-looking. There were 9 separate puzzles/mysteries to solve that then led you to solve the entire case at the end.
My thoughts
It was so fun! I didn’t time it but it probably took us a couple of hours (we were able to do it one night once the kids were in bed). I would rate the difficulty as medium-to-hard. Some of the puzzles we got super quick but others were quite hard for us to figure out! I really enjoyed it – it would have been boring if they were too easy to get and frustrating if they were too hard; I felt like this was the perfect amount of difficulty.
This is definitely something I’ll repeat again! We really enjoyed it!
Great gift and more!
Something else that’s cool about this company is that you can send the individual boxes as a gift to someone else. We sent one to my brother and sister-in-law for a Christmas present.
Oh and to clarify – this is not date-night specific! There is nothing in it that makes it geared toward couples. Michael and I used it as an at-home date night but this could absolutely be something for a fun family night, for teenagers, for a group of friends, for an individual, etc.
Try it!

I just ordered our first crate. I wondered if it would be conducive to solving more than once. Thinking we might be able to share with multiple family members so each family could solve it. Thanks for your input.
