Two years ago I got my colors done through Created Colorful and it’s high time I shared a Created Colorful review – how that process went, my results, how it’s changed the way I approach my wardrobe, and my thoughts after two years. I am SO glad that I did this! It’s made a big difference in how I shop, what I wear, how I feel about what I wear, and has made decision making so much easier.

The Backstory
Two years ago I saw someone on Instagram talk about getting their colors done. The company that was mentioned was Created Colorful so I started following out of curiousity. I remember my mom and other women in the 90s talking about “their colors” but had no idea that people still did that so I was intruiged. The more I learned about it the more I realized this was something that I’d really like to know about myself too!
At the time I was just a few months postpartum after having my 4th child. At first I told myself I’d do a color consultation as a “reward” to myself after losing the baby weight but the more I thought of it the more I thought “No! Why should I wait until I lose the weight? Not only will this help me chose clothes in any size, but it’ll also help me feel better about myself – even if my weight isn’t where I want it to be at least I know the colors of the clothes I pick are flattering.”
So I decided to go ahead and have my consultation done.
The Consultation
I excitedly signed up for a consultation and received an email with instructions on how to take pictures. They gave me a list of colors to use as well as information about the type of lighting to use and how to take my selfies. They also asked questions about what colors I liked, what I disliked, my hair color, my skin type, and what season I *thought* I was.
I sent in a bunch of pictures and a few days later received another email with a few more requests – more specific colors they wanted to see me in to help then determine my season.
I got very creative with my color draping! I used my own clothes, my husband’s clothes, my toddler’s clothes, a blanket, my breastfeeding pillow, and even a plastic bucket when I didn’t have any fabric items in my house that were the right color.
The Results
Two-ish weeks after I sent in all my pictures I got an email titled “Your Best Colors Are Here!” Eeeeeee! I was so excited!
(Actually at that exact moment I wasn’t very excited about anything…I was quite sick with covid and had such bad brain fog that I couldn’t even read through and comprehend the email buuutttttt once I was well again I was very excited to dig in to my results)
Turns out I’m a Cool Summer.
The email was so thorough and full of helpful tips as far as what looked good on me and what colors weren’t the best choices. There was info about what colors to wear, what colors to avoid, how to select my good colors while shopping, tips about picking makeup colors as well as links to products that would fit my colors, what type of jewelry goes best with my skin, tips for hair color (good news…cool summers look good with gray hair!) There’s also a digital color swatch of my colors that I saved to my phone and refer to All.The.Time.
The gals from Created Colorful who write the email results are so kind and encouraging and made me feel so good.
There was also a link in the results email to a Facebook group for my season. That’s maybe my favorite part – not only do I have my results now but I also have a community of other Cool Summers – we share links to items we’ve found in our colors, help each other pick which items fit our palettes, get advice about makeup and hair, share paint swatches so we can DIY a color fan, and more!
My Response
The first thing I did was use my results to declutter my wardrobe.
My closet was in desperate need of a clean out – I had so many items in so many sizes and the majority of them I couldn’t wear. Now that I knew what colors looked best on me I ruthlessly decluttered just about everything in my closet that didn’t fit my color palette.
Then I shifted to building up my new wardrobe. Being postpartum I definitely needed some new clothes. Since getting my results all the clothes I’ve purchased have been Cool Summer colors. I was able to build a postpartum capsule wardrobe – all my clothes can mix and match since they’re all Cool Summer colors!
Over time I’ve also switched my makeup colors and nail polish (see what nail polish I use here and my cool summer nail polish match up here)
And it’s not just clothes…I find myself buying other things like baby carriers and even Stanley cups in my colors!
My Thoughts
I am SO glad I got this done! It’s something that I recommend to everyone! The cost was completely worth it to me because 1) it gives me more confidence in the clothes I’m picking and 2) it has saved me money in the long run – no more buying all sorts of random makeup and clothes and nail polish…now I know what I’m looking for and am able to narrow down to exactly what I need to get. Also all my clothes harmonize so I can mix and match everything,
I’m someone who is pretty minimal and doesn’t like to spend a lot of time on shopping for clothes so this has been PERFECT for me – it reduces the decision making process so much!
It’s helpful in so many areas – for example, when we do family pictures, which are an investment and will be on display so you want them to look good, I’m thrilled that I can easily pick colors that look good on me.
Ongoing Support
Created Colorful doesn’t just give you your season and off you go – there is lots of ongoing education and helpful info. The Facebook groups are just amazing, like I mentioned, but they also share lots of information on Instagram and their blog – things like Target products sorted by palette, makeup links for each palette, capsule wardrobes, curated Amazon links, and more. They make it so easy for me to shop!
My Recommendation
Invest in yourself! This will help you pick the most flattering color for your clothes, the best hair color, makeup colors that compliment your coloring, and so much more.
This also makes an amazing gift! You can gift a consult to someone – I bet there are some people in your life who would love this for Christmas this year! (Or put this on your Christmas list and ask someone to gift it to you ;) )
If you’re on the fence about getting this done, DO IT!
