The Ella quilt with Ombre Confetti | A Quilt Yummy Enough to Eat!

I just finished up a quilt and it’s one of my favorites I’ve ever made!

ella quilt + ombre confetti

The last few throw-sized quilts I’ve made were projects I wasn’t thrilled about – I made them to finish up quilts I’d started years go and wasn’t totally in love with the fabric or pattern after all this time (like this Stack of Books quilt and Tilt a Whirl quilt) .  But this quilt…a totally different story!  I looooove it!

I have been a huge fan of V and Co’s ombre fabric lines for a long time.  A year or so ago our local fabric shop had a fat quarter bundle of some V and Co. Ombre Confetti and I snatched it right up.  The colors were just *chef’s kiss*…so pretty!  I keep looking at them and thinking “these are yummy enough to eat”!

It took me a while to decide what to do with them but I ended up settling on The Ella Quilt by Kitchen Table Quilting.  I bought a few complimentary solid fabrics to have enough for this quilt and I think it turned out beautiful!  The quilt top came together quickly and the ombre of the fabrics just looks so cool!

ella quilt hand quilted

I hand quilted this quilt using a varity of perle cotton #8 thread in coordinating colors.  This was my first time using such thick thread and doing big stitch quilting and I’m obsessed with how it turned out.  I love how the hand quilting stands out against the fabric and how prefectly crinkly it is.

Truly I just love this quilt so, so much!

backing

I went really plain with the backing and kept it all one fabric.  While I loved the big stitch quilting, I tried big stitch binding and did not like that at all!  I did one side then decided to take it out and attach my binding my usual way (machine sewn to the back then hand stitched to the front with an invisible whip stitch)

signed quilt

I signed my quilt by using the alphabet feature on my machine.

Quilt details:

  • Pattern – The Ella Quilt by Kitchen Table Quilting
  • Fabric – 5 fat quarters from the Ombre Confetti by V. and Co line + a few complimentary fat quarters from my LQS
  • Quilting – hand quilted with DMC perle cotton, 8wt. alternating 4 colors: color #350 (medium coral), color #3846 (light bright turquoise), color #32 (dark blueberry), and color #35 (dark fushia)
