I have always been a lover of real Christmas trees – the smell especially, but also the way they look, the nostalgia of a real tree, and just the whole experience of picking it out each year. We had real trees growing up and then when I became an adult I continued to get a real tree each Christmas.
However, a couple of years ago King of Christmas sent me one of their Christmas trees to review (you can read that review here) and let me tell you what…I fell in love! The tree was too small for our main living area but it was perfect for our bedroom so that is where it lives each year. I love that I can set it up early and keep it up as long as I want, no worries about the tree dying. I love that it’s ridiculously easy to set up. And I love that there is no mess.
I have continued to get a real tree each year for our main tree in the living room but to be honest, the appeal has begun to diminish.
I like to put up my Christmas decorations as soon as Halloween is over but you can’t put a real tree up that early so I have to wait until after Thanksgiving to put up my tree so that it’ll stay alive long enough (if I’m lucky…). Then there’s the needle-y mess that gets everywhere. Some years the tree dies so quickly. You have to remember to water them. Oh and have you seen the cost of live Christmas trees recently? Youch. And the last straw..last year our tree DIDN’T EVEN HAVE A SMELL!! That’s literally my favorite thing about the live tree and last year’s tree didn’t even have that lovely, Christmasy smell.
I mean listen, the smell is the main reason I kept getting a real tree and if that even isn’t going to be a factor anymore, then I might as well just get a fake tree and toss some Northern Lights Black Spruce oil in the diffuser and call it good.
So this year when King of Christmas contacted me about doing another product review, I decided this was the perfect opportunity to make the leap into trying an artificial tree for our main Christmas tree.

I picked the Unlit King Fraser Fir (9ft). The King Fraser Fir looks the most similar to the real trees we’ve gotten in the past. And though I love the pre-lit one we have in our bedroom (King Noble Fir with white lights), I am Team Colored Lights for the main family tree so I decided to get an unlit tree and put my own lights on. (King of Christmas does sell pre-lit trees with colored lights but I’m going for the 90s nostalgic, warm Christmas lights look, not the blue-ish LED lights look. Stay tuned for what I’ve found to use for my Christmas lights this year!)

When the box(es) arrived (yes, boxes…it was so big it came in two boxes!) I put it up right away. It fits perfectly in the space where we put our old tree. If you look closely, obviously you can tell it’s fake, but honestly the outer branches are very realistic looking (the King Fraser Fir has real-touch branches on the outside of the tree and “classic” branches, aka the not-as-realistic ones, on the inside of the tree closer to the trunk) and once we put all the ornaments on I don’t think you’ll be able to tell.
Just like with my previous King of Christmas tree, it’s so incredibly simple to set up. I forgot to take pictures of it straight out of the box (you can see what my previous tree looked like straight out of the box here, and it’s pretty similar, just 4 sections instead of 3). You just pop open the provided base, place the 4 sections (which are each conveniently labeled) on the base, and voila! Your tree is up! I honestly don’t think it needs much fluffing out of the box, but if you want to do a bit of fluffing you can use the provided gloves to keep your arms from getting scratched.

Since I got an unlit tree, there is no other set up to do. Now I’ll just add my own lights and other decorations and it’ll be ready to go.
I’m writing this review in mid-September so I am putting the tree away for now (yes I love to decorate early, but not quite THAT early) but I am SO excited to pull it back out after Halloween and be able to have our main tree up early in the season! Follow me on Instagram for pictures of it fully decorated later this season.
So yeah, I think I’m firmly Team Artificial Tree now!
You've heard what I have to say...now I want to hear your thoughts!
